You will work on different shows and projects as assigned, starting with our daily news podcast, “Post Reports.” You will utilize your keen news and programming judgment to identify Post stories, personalities and projects that can be transformed into compelling show experiences, including opportunities for video. Book, pre-interview and coordinate recordings with colleagues from The Post newsroom, as well as external subjects and newsmakers. Research and write interview prep with a strong arc, conduct the recording and pursue any additional reporting required. Write and structure episodes and segments in a clear, conversational style that’s emotionally satisfying and informative. Help maintain an efficient production process by maintaining up-to-date master scripts and organized assemblies. Place effective and appropriate scoring in sessions. Bring forward episode ideas by attending pitch meetings of different coverage desks and developing strong relationships with newsroom editors and reporters. Draft engaging show copy and intriguing episode title options. Preferred Qualifications 5+ years of experience working on an audio news program, always-on chat show, explanatory or narrative-style show. Well-versed in ProTools or similar software. Prior experience editing episode prep, scripts and guiding scoring and mix notes. Prior field production experience. Ability to offer helpful feedback in host tracking and recording sessions. Strong attention to detail with the ability to think critically and problem-solve in a fast-paced environment. Exceptional communication and organizational skills. Experience with video editing in Adobe Premiere and graphics editing. Experience or willingness to learn video production. A track record of strong performance in a deadline-driven environment. Passion for The Washington Post and its journalism. This position is based in our Washington, D.C. newsroom. Candidates should upload a résumé, cover letter and three examples of their work as PDFs to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by July 7 will be prioritized. Cover letters should be addressed to Director of Audio Renita Jablonski, Post Reports Executive Producer Maggie Penman and Supervising Senior Producer Reena Flores. The salary range for this position is: $82,600.00 - $123,800 USD.
