Directs and administers all City parks, City Cemetery, Virginia Key Park and Beach complex. Provides recreational, cultural/artistic, and educational programs through the City's parks for all segments of the population including youths, adults, seniors, and the disabled. Essential Functions Coordinates and administers divisions through subordinate personnel. Areas administered include - Parks Operations, Recreation, Capital Projects, Special Needs and Senior Programs, Special Events, and Office of the Director. Develops, prepares, and administers Department budget, including preparing cost estimates and justifications for budget recommendations, researching, and recommending Capital Improvement Projects, and monitoring and controlling expenditures. Responsible for the preparation and submission of grant applications to acquire additional funding support for various programs and projects. Identifies funding sources and raises funding necessary for capital improvements for the development of open space and park facilities. Exercises extensive public contact and community interaction in promoting neighborhood programs and achieving optimum utilization of the City's Park facilities. Solicits funds through sponsorship, grants, private industry, and other potential sources of revenue. Interacts and partners with not-for-profit and for-profit organizations to optimize the delivery of services to parks' visitors. Explores and develops new techniques and approaches in recreational activities and makes recommendations to the City Manager for changes in City policies related to parks and recreation. Is knowledgeable of strategic planning initiatives and techniques to create a highly professional, efficient, and effective department. Reports to an Assistant City Manager. Minimum Requirements Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Recreation, or a related field and eight (8) years experience in parks and recreation organizational administration including five (5) years of high-level supervisory experience.
