Salary: $17.00

Job Summary

Duties to include data collection of storm water systems throughout the City, construction inspection for new road construction and street renovations, drainage issues, GPS/GIS field tracking, field surveys.

  • GPS/GIS field tracking, field survey and some design to include storm water systems.
  • Provides inspections and layout assistance on construction projects performed by City crews and outside contractors.
  • Measures and calculates quantities of materials used for preparation of payment estimates.
  • Provides skilled services on field surveys. Operates survey instruments and measuring devices to provide accurate field measurements.
  • Computes and verifies complete survey data.
  • Provides necessary drafting of maps, graphic arts, project presentation.
  • Assists in gathering and assembling data in the areas of traffic, parking, drainage, rainfall, sewer flows, street and sewer maintenance and other related areas.
  • Inspects construction of new subdivisions, streets, drainage, and storm systems.
  • Research and respond to customer complaints.
  • Maintains positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner which promotes good working relationships with clients, customers, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Reports to City Engineer.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITES REQUIRED

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and techniques of civil engineering.
  • Knowledge of the City of Belleville highway standards and specifications and the Belleville subdivision regulations.
  • Ability to read and interpret complicated plans and specifications, to inspect construction sites, and recognize deviations from City codes and accepted engineering specifications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interface with staff from other departments, elected and appointed officials and the public.
  • GIS proficiency preferred.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCED REQUIRED

Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering.
